Harvey Carey: Texter Under Radar

If I could get one player from any other team in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) to add into the Ginebra line-up, I would say, without blinking, Harvey Carey.

Carey is  a player of the Talk N’ Text Tropang Texters which houses superstars in Jimmy Alapag, Kelly Williams, Ryan Reyes, Ali Peek to name a few.

Being in a team loaded with stellar players – it is, for a fact, difficult to fight for playing time and recognition as well.

But I guess all of that is dragon dung for Harvey Carey.

Maybe he doesn’t mind the playing time or lack thereof.

Maybe he doesn’t mind the recognition or lack thereof.

Maybe he doesn’t really care about any of it. Period.

But I have to hand it to him.

He’s definitely a texter under radar.

I mean, James Yap’s level of popularity?

No, he hasn’t reached it yet.

But watch the way he plays. Just watch him.

He’s undersized for his position, but he still manages to muscle his self under the basket.

He’s up against bigger opponents, but he still manages to have his way in the shaded area.

He’s shorter than most players awaiting the rebound, but he still manages to have double figures for boards taken.

He might not be someone who generates cheers when the colesium barker announces his entry to the game, like a Caguioa.

He might not be someone who generates jeers from opponents for being the thorn to their favored team, like a Cardona.

He might not be someone who generates that buzzer beating game winner trick shot, like a Cabagnot.

He might not have those fancy floaters, awesome hook shots, or killer treys, but he gets the job done.

No fireworks, no marching band, no flags and stuff.

But he gets the job done.

Again I reiterate, HE GETS THE JOB DONE.

He does all those things that most fans nowadays consider little.

Rebound. Hussle. Tip in. Deflection. Defense.

Stuff that truly matter but are naked to the eyes of the “new generation” basketball fans who are all for flattery basketball.

I’m a self-confessed Ginebra die hard, but when it comes to the power forward position, he is the one guy I want the Gin Kings to have.

Imagine him playing alongside the H-Bomb.

I mean, seriously think about that.

But it’s all wishful thinking for me.

Harvey Carey looks pretty comfortable donning that blue and yellow jersey for TNT.

Although I believe Red and Black would suit him way better.
